Investment Committee Members
The Investment Committee is responsible for setting and determining the investment policies/guidelines and strategies of the Funds. They meet regularly to discuss investment strategies, asset allocation and stock selection as well as review and monitor portfolio performance against benchmarks and guidelines.
The following are the members of Manulife Unit Trusts Berhad Investment Committee:-
Tan Sri Dato’ Mohd Sheriff bin Mohd Kassim
Tan Sri Dato’ Mohd Sheriff bin Mohd Kassim, holds a B A (Honours) Economics degree from University Malaya and a Diploma in Economic Development from Oxford University, United Kingdom. He also holds a M A Economics from Vanderbilt University, USA.
Tan Sri was the Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad and past Director of United Engineers (Malaysia) Berhad and former Chairman of UEM Land Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Renong Berhad). Prior to joining Khazanah Nasional Berhad as the Managing Director in 1994, he served as the Secretary General of Treasury, Ministry of Finance for 3 years.
Tan Sri sits on the Boards of Manulife Holdings Berhad and Manulife Insurance Berhad. He is also the Non-Independent Non-Executive Chairman of PLUS Expressways Berhad,Chairman of the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research, President of the Malaysian Economic Association. He further serves as a Non-executive Chairman of Projek Penyelenggaran Lebuhraya Berhad and Projek Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan Berhad, Scientex Berhad, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad, Standard Chartered Saadiq Bhd and Yayasan UEM.
Datuk Ismail bin Haji Ahmad
Datuk lsmail bin Haji Ahmad graduated from University Malaya with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honours) and later obtained his Masters Degree in Public Policy and Administration from the University of Wisconsin, USA. He had also attended the Senior Management Program conducted by the Harvard Business School.
Prior to joining the private sector, he had served as an officer in the Administrative and Diplomatic Service Malaysia in the Prime Minister's Department, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Primary Industries. While in the Government service, he had served in senior positions as the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Primary Industries and the Chief Executive Officer of the Commodities Trading Commission.
After his retirement from the Civil Service, he had served as Chairman of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad and Board member of Advanced Packaging Technology (M) Berhad and Tracoma Holdings Berhad and IPP Venture Berhad. Datuk also sits on the Boards of Manulife Holdings Berhad and Manulife Insurance Berhad.
Mr. Michael Chan Yui Lung
Mr Michael Chan Yui Lung, a British citizen, was appointed Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Manulife Holdings Berhad on 16 February 2009. Mr Chan is a Fellow Member of the British Royal Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Associate Member of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a qualified member of the society of Registered Financial Planners, Hong Kong. Mr Chan has been a qualified member of the Life Insurance Management Research Association since 1997.
Mr Chan joined Manulife International Ltd, Hong Kong in 2000 as Vice President, Group Life and Health. He was appointed as Vice President, Distribution in 2004, as Head of Sales Operation of 450 Corporate Brokers and 3,600 tie in-house agents. Prior to joining Manulife in 2000, Mr Chan served on the Boards of a number of insurance companies, and as an Accounting Officer in Management Accounting Branch, Treasury for Hong Kong Government.
Mr. Leo Ng Ho Lai
Mr Leo Ng Ho Lai, was appointed the Group Chief Financial Officer of Manulife Holdings Berhad in April 2009. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and also the Canadian Institution of Actuaries. Mr Ng joined Manulife more than 14 years ago and has held various roles in Manulife Toronto,Hong Kong and Malaysia.
